These clouds have no silver lining
These lethal clouds need to be tackled and nations need to move towards an urgent transition to low-carbon economies that would dramatically cut burning in all its forms, so that both the greenhouse gases and the particles that make up the brown clouds around the world reduce.
Such a step would also involve multiple economic, social, and environmental benefits that can arise from boosting energy efficiency and moving to cleaner energy generation and renewable energies. “This will require technology transfer from developed nations to developing nations alongside creative financing, which indeed is one of the very important issues on the table at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poznan, Poland in only a few weeks time en route to a new global climate deal in Copenhagen in late 2009,” says UNEP’s Nick Nuttall.
It is essential that man regains his lost capacity to foresee and to forestall. Our prime concern should be to take care of our earth so that it cares for us in return.
